This spring and fall benefit series focuses on sacred choral music and is offered by First English Lutheran choirs together with community members under the direction of Maestro Erich Knapp.
Fall Concert:
"Wake, Awake"
Come, bring a friend, and enjoy
Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata No. 140 on
Sunday, March 8 at 3 p.m.
in the Downtown Site Sanctuary
of First English Lutheran Church at
326 E North Street in Appleton.
This Bach cantata is one of his two most famous, and is based on the familiar Advent hymn, "Wake, Awake." The cantata will be performed by the FELC Parish Choir and Music Interns, members of the Zion Lutheran Church Choir, the community, and concert organist Frank Perko III under the direction of Erich Knapp.
The concert will also feature handbells, chimes and percussion performing a new composition, "Artemis," which celebrates the astronauts of the Artemis II lunar mission of April 2026.
In addition, enjoy a major work for two choirs and handballs, "The Singing Heart," by composer Bob Chilcott and a solo performance by Frank Perko III of Bach's, "Organ Concerto in a-minor."
